CFC Certification

At the end of your three-week training course at Fred's Appliance Academy you'll take the nationally recognized NASTeC exam, and you'll also be offered the opportunity to apply for Type 1 CFC certification. While all students take the NASTeC exam, the CFC test is optional. We encourage you to pursue your CFC certification, as it will provide you with the knowledge and the authority to perform refrigerant recovery. You'll be helping to protect the environment while also making yourself a more marketable technician.

Your CFC certificate proves that you've demonstrated thorough knowledge of refrigerant recovery as required by the Environmental Protection Agency. CFC refrigerant is a known contributor to the depletion of the ozone. Technicians authorized to remove and capture refrigerant are highly sought after.

Type 1 CFC certification authorizes you to perform CFC refrigerant recovery on what the EPA considers to be “small appliances.” This includes refrigerators and freezers designed for home use, room and window air conditioners, dehumidifiers, packaged terminal heat pumps, packaged terminal air conditioners, vending machines, under-the-counter icemakers, and drinking water coolers.

Applying for CFC certification requires a nominal fee.
